Honorees
Since 1992, Senator Robert Menendez (invited) has represented the State of New Jersey in Washington, where
he rose to become the third-highest ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives before taking
office in the Senate in 2006. As Chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation and Community Development, Senator Menendez was integral to securing federal funds for one of the
nation's largest transit projects, Access to the Region's Core. Senator Menendez has also been a leader in connecting land use, transportation,
and environmental issues, most recently as a co-sponsor of the Livable Communities Act which seeks to encourage sustainable development
in communities throughout the country. In addition, the Senator has been instrumental in funding and implementing the Liberty
Corridor, which is a multi-modal transportation initiative to facilitate
innovation and unlock the full potential of the region.
Streetsblog is an online daily news source that has transformed the livable streets movement in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and nationwide. Its counterpart, Streetfilms, produces short films to encourage people friendly design. Since its launch in June 2006, keen attention to facts and details has made Streetsblog an invaluable resource for advocates and policy makers and filled a critical gap in a changing media landscape. Using analysis, interviews, research and humor, Streetsblog and Streetfilms are consistently at the forefront of transit, pedestrian, bicycling, and livable community issues. Streetsblog Editor-in-Chief Aaron Naparstek and Streetfilms Director Clarence Eckerson will be accepting the award.
