Involvement in ISTEA CMAQ process to include NYC Borough Presidents
New York City Borough Presidents will participate fully in the selection of NYC's ISTEA CMAQ projects from this point on. Borough presidents previously submitted projects but were not included in project review and selection. Citing the need for greater public input, all five borough presidents signed an April letter asserting the need for a greater role in determining the use of the funds. An August reply from NYC Transportation and City Planning Commissioners Sander and Rose assented. The Campaign hopes that this change will make the decision-making process more transparent and amenable to input, and would like to press the borough presidents to assert a stronger role in project selection from other fund sources, since CMAQ makes up only 6% of all federal transportation aid the region is expected to receive over the next five years.
