Opposition to Port Authority Airport Access Rail Proposal

The Port Authority's NYC airport access proposal suffered another blow this week with the unveiling of a consultant study commissioned by East Side Manhattan community boards. The draft presented at a Sept. 19 meeting argues that the Port Authority plan will increase midtown traffic and says the assumption that an airport access system cannot be integrated with existing train services politically jeopardizes the entire project. The Port Authority board will vote November 10 on whether or not to formally apply to the FAA for permission to build its dedicated airport rail system. The Tri-State Transportation Campaign is meeting to discuss the issue on Friday, Sept. 30 at 9:00 am, Campaign office, 281 Park Ave S. (corner 22nd St.).
