Campaign Discussion of Outreach to Utilities
Prior to the Sept. 22 board meeting, Tri-State Campaign members met to discuss an outreach effort to the region's public utility companies. CFE's Mike Stern recounted the incorporation of Bridgeport's United Illuminating Company as a partner in Connecticut's state-wide transportation control measures study (including a UI grant to leverage the CMAQ funds that support the study). NRDC's energy staff got to the point and suggested using their contacts to go directly to NY utility CEO's with an agenda for collaborating with the Campaign. NJ Campaign representatives noted their contacts with utility officials and suggested issues with which to further the relationships. Charlie Komanoff conveyed a request from NY Power Authority Chair David Freeman for a briefing from the Campaign. Campaign staff are working with NJ Environmental Lobby and NJ PIRG on next steps with NJ utilities. A tentative meeting date for the NY Campaign delegation and NRDC's energy staff to develop an agenda for approaching NY utilities is October 13 at 11:00 am. Confirmation calls for this meeting and for the meeting with Freeman will be made later this week or early next.
