Giuliani MTA Board Nominees Are No-Shows
NYC Mayor Giuliani's nominees to the MTA board haven't shown up to a single committee meeting since their appointment. The mayor's budget director, Abe Lackman, and Deputy Mayor John Dyson missed three meetings each in their first month as board members. "It starts their career on the MTA board on the wrong foot," said State Senator Norman Levy, who presided over their nomination hearings. "They gave me their solemn commitment that they would be at meetings." Straphangers Campaign and other transit groups opposed the nominations, in part because it seemed clear neither official would have time to attend meetings. (NY Post)
