Connecticut Transportation Control Measures Study Almost Complete

The Connecticut Fund for the Environment's Transportation Control Measures Study is nearly complete. This study, undertaken in partnership with the United Illuminating Company, the Connecticut Dept. of Environmental Protection and the CT Dept. of Transportation is part of a comprehensive effort to attain federal clean air standards, reduce congestion and create a more efficient transportation system in Connecticut. The economic and social effects of the potential strategies are also highlighted by the study. Although the final report will not be completed until later this month, preliminary results show that several strategies outlined in the Tri-State Transportation Campaign Citizens Plan, including VMT taxes and the linked implementation of land use reform and transit expansion, have promise to reduce vehicle miles of travel significantly. CFE is working with its partners in the study to develop a next steps plan for transportation control measures in the state.
