NY Ped and Bicycle Budgets May Double
New York City is poised to double the budgets of its bicycle and pedestrian network projects if it can get approval for the programs' CMAQ funding from the NYC Transportation Coordinating Committee (NYC TCC). The networks provide the staffing, planning and implementation funding at the core of NYC's cycling and pedestrian improvement programs. Transportation Alternatives aggressively cajoled the conservative NYC Depts. of Transportation and City Planning to increase their requests and workplans for the projects. The next hurdle is getting the funding through the NYC TCC's inter-agency horse trading and back room politicking. Put in a good word for NYC walking and cycling: fax a brief note to Transportation Commissioner Lee Sander (212-442-7007) and to City Planning Transportation Division chief Floyd Lapp (212- 277-6870) in support of the projects.
