Suffolk Legislature Votes to Support Expanded Cross-Sound Ferry Service
The Suffolk County Legislature voted 11-6 last week for a resolution in support of expanded cross-Long Island Sound ferry service. A New Haven-based company, L.I. Sound Shuttle Limited Partnership, is seeking to use the site of the closed Shoreham nuclear power station as a Long Island terminal for high speed service linking the Island to New Haven. The Long Island Lighting Company, owner of the Shoreham site, had refused to begin negotiations and endure local opposition to ferry-bound traffic without the backing of county lawmakers. The would-be ferry operator says its service would be 30 minutes faster than the existing Bridgeport-Port Jefferson service. Newsday, Connecticut Post
