Timetable for Montclair Connection
NJ Transit is awaiting Federal Transit Administration (FTA) approval to begin buying property and relocating residents as first steps toward implementation of the Montclair connection, the long-delayed track connection to permit NJ Transit Boonton Line trains direct access to Newark and easier connections to Manhattan. The FTA go-ahead could take place this summer, opening an 18-month window to purchase land and resettle the 28 families the quarter-mile track connection will displace. Completion of the project will take about a year and a half, longer than originally anticipated due to NJ Transit's agreement to electrify five miles of the Boonton line to reduce the number of diesel trains running through Montclair.
