FTA Gets Mixed Signals on 42nd Street Rail

A $300,000 Federal Transit Administration grant that would be used to solicit proposals from private companies interested in building and operating the proposed NYC 42nd Street light rail line is ready for delivery, but City Hall can't make up its mind to take it, or which City agency should administer it. A Crain's NY Business editorial this week noted that "no city agency will accept the grant for fear it will appear to be supporting the trolley. It's one of the worst examples of how projects wither when the mayor and his small number of trusted advisors can't focus on an issue."
