Break Out the Gas Masks: Hot Air from Candidate DuHaime
In the June 4 Star Ledger article announcing that Passaic County Freeholder and North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) Chair Richard DuHaime will challenge Bill Bradley for his U.S. Senate seat, DuHaime rails against the Clean Air Act and is quoted saying the U.S. environmental movement has "gotten totally out of control." A feature article in the same Ledger edition noted that asthma rates continue to increase among Americans, and cites a central New Jersey study that found increased emergency room visits during days with high air pollution levels. At the May NJTPA meeting, DuHaime characteristically questioned the need for air pollution reduction, observing that no one was "wearing gas masks around."
