Shore Line East Future Looks Brighter

The Connecticut legislature has appropriated funds to keep Shore Line East commuter rail service running between New Haven and Old Saybrook. Sources say it is likely that the Rowland Administration and Connecticut DOT will abide by the appropriation and keep the line running. We reported here throughout February and March on the administration's proposal to kill the line altogether, and on the flurry of pro-transit organizing and advocacy it provoked. The

line has exceeded ridership projections since its start in 1990. It eases congestion on I-95 east of New Haven, especially at the Quinnipiac Bridge bottleneck.
