Planners examining proposals to extend Danbury Branch Metro-North commuter rail service north to New Milford have concluded that Connecticut cannot afford it at present. Nonetheless, increasing numbers of lower Fairfield County workers use the branch for commuting. This summer, Connecticut DOT will increase train frequency on the branch. The Southwestern Regional Planning Agency will likely keep the New Milford proposal on a back burner. The agency is also said to be interested in the extension of commuter rail service from New Haven North to Hartford. Stamford Advocate
