Business Backs Harlem Line Third Track
The Westchester Business Partnership voted in May to endorse the MTA's proposal to add a 3.6 mile section of track to the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line in Mt. Vernon. The non-profit public-private venture's president George Delaney said "A fine mass-transit system is crucial to Westchester's economic stability and growth...Without this third track, Metro-North cannot meet its projected increase in peak-hour ridership." The third track project will allow Metro-North to add trains and run a more efficient mix of local and express trains on the Harlem Line, which stretches from Grand Central Terminal to Dover Plains in Dutchess County. Some local residents oppose the project due to the noise and other impacts more frequent trains will have on neighborhoods. NY Times
