Lawsuit Filed to Stop New Haven to Boston Rail Electrification
Opponents of the Amtrak Northeast Corridor electrification project have filed a lawsuit against Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration in federal district court in their continued effort to block Amtrak's plan. 21 plaintiffs charge that the Northeast Corridor Improvement Project will hurt the environment, tourism, rail freight, navigational commerce, and their residential domains. An Amtrak spokesperson said the company has been expecting the lawsuit, which it will respond to as it continues working on rail improvements and filing various permit applications. Citizens for Amtrak rep and local resident Audrey Heard was angry, saying the lawsuit will only add to the much needed modernization plan's expense. She added that several CT citizens groups are working on a campaign to make it clear to legislators that Connecticut needs and wants the rail improvements. New Haven Register.
