Around the Region: LIRR Platform Design Flawed

A design error has made new train platforms at the LIRR's Islip and Great River stations temporarily unusable. The firms that designed the platforms failed to compensate for a platform tilt that drains rainwater away from the tracks. The tilt raised the platforms several inches above the train floor -- more than enough to make people trip, according to LIRR officials. The consultants have accepted responsibility and will pay to correct the problem. NY Times
