
Region Hosts World Pollution Talks
This week, an environmental summit at the United Nations took up the issue of global climate change. President Clinton spoke at the conference yesterday but stopped short of committing the U.S. to benchmarks for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (chiefly, carbon dioxide). In his speech, Clinton urged improvements in automobile fuel efficiency but failed to mention better planning to curb sprawl and growth in car use.
