Around the Region: Movable Bridge Privatization In Connecticut
ConnDOT has solicited bids from private firms to operate movable bridges in Mystic, East Haddam, Niantic, South Norwalk, Bridgeport and Milford, according to the Courant. ConnDOT says the change would save the state money. 61 legislators, including four transportation committee leaders, and the the Bridge Workers Union, oppose the plan. A contract is scheduled to be awarded in October, but the legislature could scrap the plan altogether. ConnDOT is aggravating lawmakers by withholding basic information on bridge operation costs.
