Smart Transit Emerging

Albany's Capital District Transportation Authority has set up its first "smart" bus stop. An electronic display advises riders of the next bus scheduled to arrive. The display can be updated at will from the CDTA's headquarters. At some unspecified time, it will be able to provide "real time" information accounting for any delays thanks to "global positioning" technology that will be installed in the buses. The electronics are housed in an extensive new shelter with interior lighting and heating in the winter. Several more of the stops, designed to spruce up neighborhoods and make public transit more attractive, are in the works. Times Union
