More on NJ Transit Bus Fares
Last week, we briefly recounted reports that NJ Transit bus
fares were highest in the U.S. (See MTR #198).
Transit planners have pointed out to us that the fares are due to the long
trips NJ Transit's suburban riders take to Manhattan and other destinations,
while most bus systems in the nation serve short trips within cities. The
national study on which the "highest fares" finding was based
does not make this important distinction.
