Tunnel-Happy Atlantic City

Atlantic City Mayor James Whelan has developed a plan for another new highway tunnel, this one leading from the Atlantic City Expressway into the main casino area. A $330 million tunnel into the newer Marina section is under construction now. If the project gets into the state's funding pipeline, expect a firestorm of protest from North Jersey, where municipal and county officials are already suspicious of constant "slippage" of needed infrastructure maintenance projects.
