New York Revisits Route 120 Widening

NY State DOT has released supplemental studies for its project to widen Route 120 from two to five lanes between Route 22 and I-684 in eastern Westchester.

The additional work, which focuses on preventing runoff-related pollution in the Kensico reservoir, was ordered by Governor Pataki last year after Scenic Hudson, Federated Conservationists of Westchester and other environmental groups protested the roadway expansion near the Kensico's shores (see MTR #'s 148, 155). The supplemental studies also look at strategies to manage traffic demand and at the wider road's potential to increase development pressures.

DOT is processing comments on the new studies and will release a refined version of the environmental impact statement for the project in May, with public hearings to follow.
