The Clinton Administration announced this week that the federal
government will provide 80% of the $147.3 million to build a light-rail
link in downtown Newark between the Broad Street Station and Newark's
Penn Station. The money comes from $6.1 billion that the Administration
has earmarked in the fiscal year 2000 budget for transportation projects

as the first part of a $630 million system that will eventually stretch
8.8 miles from downtown Newark to Newark International Airport and into
Elizabeth. Star Ledger
