Route 92 Fight In Home Stretch ?

Opponents are continuing the fight to block construction of Route 92, the proposed 6.7-mile highway linking the NJ Turnpike with Route 1 in Middlesex County.

Project foes hope the Army Corps of Engineers, currently reviewing the project, heeds advice of numerous transportation consultants' studies showing cheaper, less destructive alternatives to the highway. The EPA, which has stated its opposition to the road many times (see MTRs #190, 192, 193), proposed an alternative to the project that would spare wetlands, shave $200 million from the project cost, and still address local traffic problems.

Original studies showed that Route 92 would attract almost 12,000 new vehicles per day to the area.
