NJ DOT bowed to pressure from local activists and government
officials seeking to preserve a 5-mile undeveloped corridor once set aside
to be part of Route 31 north of Trenton. Instead of trying to get what
the land is worth on the open market, the DOT plans to make it available
for preservation at minimal cost. Legislation precludes DOT from giving
the land away, but considering that officials want it used for cycling
and walking, DOT plans to meet with Ewing Township and the College of New
Jersey to find a creative way to meet those goals. Trenton Times
