Around the Region

Proximity to Metro-North's Beacon station has helped an old box factory get the nod as the site for a new museum run by the Dia Center for the Arts. Easy access to public transit generally increases the value of many properties, and transit-oriented development will prove a boon to communities like Beacon that are seeking new foundations for their economies. "My initial reaction was, if I were going to build a museum from scratch, I would build it just like this. Concrete and steel. Wood floors. Space between the columns. Perfect light. A Metro-North train stop," Michael Govan, the Center's director, told the NY Times.
