In late 1997, when NYS DOT was in the midst of designing a bridge rehabilitation on Route 114 over Sag Harbor Cove, Sag Harbor and North Haven Village officials and residents voiced concerns about ever-increasing, speeding traffic and the lack of pedestrian and bicycle amenities and safety features along the route. As a result, NYS DOT committed planning resources and capital funding to the project, its first comprehensive traffic calming study. The planned traffic calming and streetscape measures will create safer pedestrian and bicycling environments.
