Long Island Traffic Calming Fund

Last week, we reported that NY State Transportation Commissioner Joe Boardman had announced the creation of a new traffic calming program that would fund local pedestrian safety projects on Long Island.

The official announcement came in fact from Governor George Pataki's office.

We commend both the Governor and the Commissioner for taking this important step. The fund will be $3 million for its first year. NYS DOT expects to solicit project proposals for cities and towns starting next year.

A link to the Governor's press release is now on the Campaign's web site.
