The Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA says Metro-North RR still operates some diesel trains in Grand Central Terminal. Soot from the diesels potentially jeopardizes the recent renewal of the terminal's facades and ceiling. The railroad says diesels are run in the station only when third rail power is out for construction work or when dual-mode engines fail.
