Thruway Concern Over GWB Tolls
NY State Thruway officials told reporters early in January they were concerned that the proposed toll hike at the George Washington Bridge could cause extra traffic to flee to the Tappan Zee. In addition to the normal jams it sees each day, the Tappan Zee and adjoining segments of I-287 could soon experience construction-related problems as well because of the reconstruction of Thruway exit 8 and other projects. One solution to the pending problem would be for Thruway officials to act on their own congestion pricing study, which found that modest peak period toll hikes could significantly ease jams. But a Thruway official told the Journal-News that the authority was not now considering congestion pricing for motorists.
