Amtrak Begins Frequent Traveler Program
Amtrak has established a frequent-rider program, similar to the incentive
plans airlines have used for many years. Regular train riders can accumulate
"guest reward" points based on ticket costs, which can later be redeemed
for additional tickets or other services like car rentals. Train riders
can open accounts under the program via the internet, at www.amtrak.com.
Unfortunately, like many other aspects of Amtrak, the frequent-rider
program features a degree of built-in sluggishness. The web site
explains that earned points will not show up in an individual's account
until 1-3 months after tickets are purchased.
