Ferrer Stands by Toll Statement
Last
week, Bronx Borough President and mayoral candidate Fernando Ferrer reiterated
to the Staten Island Advance his position that all tolls should
be removed from the Verrazano Narrows Bridge (MTR
#305). Ferrer had taken the stance earlier in February in response
to questioning at a forum in Manhattan, reported
by the Villager. Verrazano and other MTA tolls support mass
transit and bridge and tunnel upkeep. Ferrer did not say how he would replace
the lost revenue. Over the past several years, Ferrer has been an outspoken
advocate for costly transportation projects like a Second Avenue subway
running from the northern Bronx to lower Manhattan.
