Carrion Open-Minded on Sheridan Fate

The Bronx River Working Group, a coalition of 60 community organizations, asked for meetings with the three main Democratic candidates for Bronx Borough President this summer. They wanted to know candidates' opinion on connecting the Bronx River Greenway through the South Bronx, demapping Edgewater Road and eliminating the redundant Sheridan Expressway in favor of riverfront parkland or other community-friendly uses.

Only Adolfo Carrion, Jr. agreed to meet with the group. Mr. Carrion, Jr. said "I think that the move by other cities to remove highways from waterfronts is the right way to go... I'm not afraid of controversy." He stated that he would help purchase parcels needed to complete the greenway and generally agreed that demapping Edgewater Road was a good idea.

Note: MTR discussed Staten Island b.p. candidates' transportation-related opinions in #330. We hope to cover the Queens race next week.
