More
than 600 people from the NY-based, RPA-led Civic Alliance met last week
to discuss the rebuilding of lower Manhattan. The
group rated construction of a transportation hub and integration
of ferries, subways, pedestrian ways and other transportation methods as
its second highest priority. Although
participants felt that the creation andconstruction
of a transportation hub was likely to happen, significant hurdles still
exist.A station that allows easy
transfers between subways and the PATH has yet to be designed.Furthermore,
there are not yet permanent bus lanes or good bus-ferry-subway connections
in much of the New York metropolitan area. |
