Lower
Manhattan City Council member Alan Gerson told citizens at a Manhattan
community board #2 forum that he supports East River Bridge tolls,
and is trying to push funding for a consultant to study the implications
and how-to aspects of the idea for the Council in this year’s budget. That
is welcome news, since the city appears to be making no move to
follow up on inclusion of East River toll revenue in Mayor Bloomberg’s
out-year budget (see MTR #353). State
Senator Tom Duane also said he supports East River tolls, but spent most
of his remarks raising objections to them. Participants
at the forum overwhelmingly backed implementation of tolls. |
