Subway Centennial! How Should We Celebrate?

This week, the Tri-State Transportation Campaign and the Straphangers Campaign launched a contest for ideas on how to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NYC subway system. The subway officially opened in October, 1904.

"It’s been a great run, from the nickel fare to the 30-day MetroCard, from leather straps to air-conditioned new technology trains," said Jon Orcutt of the Tri-State Campaign.  "Now, the subways deserve a big, big party and the riders deserve a say on what kind of celebration."

"The subways made the city and now it’s time to celebrate," said the Straphangers Campaign’s Gene Russianoff.

Ten winners will get a free seven-day Metrocard and have their ideas sent to the MTA. The contest is on until 5pm, Monday, October 27.
