The Port Authority's AirTrain at JFK opened last Wednesday, to some fanfare and a few misgivings.

When Governor McGreevey rejected an increase  the state gas tax last week, he cited "families struggling to pay new bills" in a period of economic uncertainty.  New Jersey commuters, however, could face the prospect of higher fares if the NJ Transit isn't spelled from its ongoing budget woes.

The region's other mass transit facility that opened last week was NJ's Secaucus Transfer, which began weekday service Monday.

A Sunday Newsday editorial said it's high time for Governor Pataki and the NY State Legislature to come up with new revenue for the MTA system that doesn't come directly from riders' wallets.

Residential Parking Permits? Not Rocket Science

Although City Councilmember David Yassky's office has not received a formal reply from the NYC DOT regarding requests to provide residential parking permits in Downtown Brooklyn, initial reactions indicate the agency are not going to support the plan.
