Mark Page told the NY Post  that East River tolls are “very likely” and that the administration would work throughout the next year to make progress on the initiative.
 
Fare Hike = Tax Hike, Mayor Confirms 7-Train Project as Priority
Leading NY State Democrats said likely MTA fare increases clash with Governor Pataki’s pledge not to raise taxes in the face of the state’s fiscal crisis.  Meanwhile, Mayor Bloomberg focused on the #7 subway extension in his State of the City Speech.

Safety Advocates Launch Plan to Reduce Truck Crashes
The Tri-State Campaign, the NJ  Police Traffic Officers Association and nine mayors released a twelve-point platform to reduce truck crashes on NJ highways.

Bee-Line Riders, Advocates Fight Fare Hike
Nearly 150 bus riders and transit advocates mobilized on the coldest night of the winter to denounce Westchester County’s plan to increase Bee-Line bus fares. 

Groups Urge Suozzi to Return Funds to Nassau Bus System
Nassau’s bus riders may soon be paying more for the same crowded and infrequent buses.  But county government's recent bus budget cut leaves riders without a clear public champion as the fare increase grows closer.

Route 22 Forums Scheduled
Since NY State DOT first proposed widening Route 22 in Putnam County ten years ago,  opposition by community groups, enviros and local officials has slowed its progress.

Amtrak Wins a Round in the Senate
In a sign of hope for Amtrak, the U.S. Senate has approved the railroad’s request for $1.2 billion in federal funding.  It sets up a crucial Senate-House conference committee decision. 

Mid-American Pols Would Kill Transit to Boost Highway $
Senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Max Baucus of Montana have indicated plans to shift more than $4 billion in public transit funding to prop up highway spending levels.
