For Immediate Release: March 28, 2008 Tri-State Transportation Campaign Statement on Bond Commission Release of $75M for ‘Fix-it-First’ ProgramHartford—While the Tri-State Transportation Campaign welcomes the Bond Commission’s release of $75 million dedicated to a new ‘Fix-it-First’ program, we believe that ‘Fix-it-First’ should be the underlying strategy behind all of ConnDOT’s transportation investment decisions, not a separately funded program. Creating a separate ‘Fix-it-First’ program will do nothing to reverse ConnDOT’s current emphasis on road and bridge expansion. Instead, ConnDOT should look to address the state’s crumbling infrastructure by adopting a true ‘Fix-it-First’ policy that prioritizes maintenance and repair of existing infrastructure over costly expansion projects. # # # The Tri-State Transportation Campaign is a non-profit policy watchdog organization dedicated to forging a more balanced, environmentally sustainable, safe and socially equitable transportation system in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. |
